I came upon what you see here and judging by its surroundings. I figured that this is how the Starfish caught this fish. It's pure speculation on my part but this is how I read it.

I figured that there happened to be a fish staying close to shore, probably for protection. As the tide receded, the small fish found himself trapped in a small pool of water nestled in amongst the rocks. As the water drained from the rocks with the outgoing tide, the fish was trapped. If this fish's day wasn't going bad enough, it gets even worse. Clinging to the rocks was an extremely slow moving but very fortunate and lucky Starfish. That fish could have been scooped up by any number of shore feeders, land or air but not on this particular day. Folks, you are looking at one very happy Starfish.

The irony in this picture is that the Starfish in the pursuit of a meal. Has largely detached itself from the safety of his vise-like grip of the rocks. Completely exposing its vulnerable undersides to predators who may happen by. In picture #002, you will see how Starfish are usually found at low tide in search of food.

Just another mystery of nature, where we are in search of answers.

Starfish extrude the stomach, as i recall, which engulfs the prey. Maybe we're seeing partially digested prey.
