Here are more photos from my ongoing otter camera trap set up.
I've been getting otters and raccoons most nights, though they sometimes use a shortcut trail that bypasses my trigger point.
Sometimes the camera gets birds in the daytime that come down to drink or bathe, these are both Yellow-rumped Warblers.
I've been making adjustments in the lighting and focus point to try to catch different poses and make the best looking portraits that I can. The otter photo that is next up from the bottom has probably my favorite pose so far, but it's eyes are out of the focus zone, and it's whiskers are hitting the bottom of the image frame.
Yesterday I pointed my lens lower, (I'm now using a 300mm lens, so framing is tight), and I moved the focus point a few inches closer. I also attached a small mirror to a branch above and behind the trigger area, and angled it to create a hair light on the animals. I put a blue gel filter over the mirror to give a bit of color contrast to the image. The last otter image was taken last night with those changes, unfortunately it's face is mostly underwater and it has a collection of sticks on it's head.
If the gear doesn't get stolen, I hope to keep the set up running for a good while longer. The creek is near a spot where homeless people often camp, so I'm expecting to pull everything out in a hurry at the first sign of trouble.
Comments or questions are welcome. Jon Klein

All of the photos were awesome but catching those birds in flight was really cool. Great job!!

Good stuff. Again, it's really tough to camera trap with long lenses. While the focus can be tricky, at least you can pinpoint the light.
