It's foreign to me as I have only ever seen them on TV or in pictures. Sort of like North America's version of the Wilderbeast. Having the combined looks of several different species of other animals.

They are certainly unusual- North America's marsupial.

All kinds of lore associated with their behavior, diet, and supposed curative power of a soup made from them- Yikes.

My experience is they are generally slow-moving and kind of nasty, will eat nearly anything, and will inflict an awful bite if you let them. But, they have nowhere near the temper, appetite or destructive tendencies of a raccoon.

Good catch. In the south they say there's nothin' like baked possum and sweet taters. All you need to get them is a hound, an ax and a gunny sack. We kept a young one for a while when my kids were small. They're actually almost cute when little. We kept "possie" in a cage in the basement, but let him wander around in the living room for entertainment, but never long enough for "an accident" to happen. One time when an evening with the garden club ladies was wearing thin, I asked it they wanted to see "possie". You should have seen them pack it up when they saw who "possie" was.

They really are strange creatures. Nice pics -- I like the lighting and great details. The arched tree is nice compositionally

Wow, would love to see the only North American marsupial!

We have heaps of species here in Australia, not closely related to your possum - and much cuter!

Those Pygmy Possums are certainly cleaner and fluffier than their greasy Dracula cousins. :-)
