Has anybody had a chance to check out the Canon SL1? The UPS guy dropped one off a few days ago. I had a chance to put it in the field this afternoon. We'll see what it does after a few days.

I want one! Until they make a mirrorless cam with a hotshoe and wired shutter port, I think the SL1 is gonna be the best canon option for camera trapping. They just went on sale, I'd get one if I wasn't broke. Does it sync flash at 1/250s, that's my only issue with Rebels...

Look forward to seeing what you find. The Nikon 7100 also looks sweet, x-sync at 1/320, 24 mp and light.

The mirror does seem quieter than previous Rebels.

I ran down to the creek today and swapped memory cards on the SL1.

The image below is a 18 mega pixel, wide angle view of a cold Nebraska night.

When I put the camera out the temp was about 30 degrees. Shortly after that the temp started going down as the next front came through. The wireless flash triggers are only good to around 15 degrees so no flash. I'll hook them up with a cable in the morning.

Bummer! I think there's a warm front coming through so hopefully you'll get some shots in the next few days.

A little better last night but it looks like I still have a flash issue.

Canon SL1, Canon 10-22mm lens and two Nikon SB28 flashes.

There's a flash over there, it's just not triggering dependably. I replaced it a couple nights ago. We'll see what happens.

Nice composition. Very good shot even without perfect lighting.
