Just opened my Pic Axe kit I purchased about 6 months ago. :bag

Do I need to assemble the project board in order to program a chip for the SS board?

Yes, assemble the board...Mine was very simple and only took 20-30 minutes tops.

So, now I copy and paste the pre-written code I wish to use into the body of the program editor, install batteries in my project board, connect it to my puter via the cable, plug a chip into the project board, then what???

Then you click the button labeled Program at the top and watch the progress bar. It will either tell you how much space you have used out of 256 or it will give you an error.

If it gives an error, let us know what it says.

OK, copied and pasted the code into the program editor. Ran the syntax and got a bug, says:

"If pin3 = 0 Then 'pin3 goes to the PIR, when PIR detects motion...then...
^

Error: Unknown symbol - pin3"

Anyone know if the new editor on their site has a different command for this input? If not, any suggestions?

Click on the options button and make sure you are in the PICAXE-08M mode.

Matt, that's what it was. Thanks!

Tony, I'm using Charles' Panasonic FS6, FH20, FS3....code in this section.

I bought the serial cable instead of the USB cable and neither my Desktop nor my laptop have a port that it will fit in. What are you guys doing? Is there an adaptor, or do I have to buy the USB cable off of Sparkfun?
