I used mostly oil based paints...which seems like what most people were using. One of the liquid oil base paint I used in flat brown sunk, but the other colors stayed on the surface. Not sure what the difference was, but the ones that stayed up top didn't swirl for some reason. I even applied them gently with syringes.

I thought about adding cooking oil to the water surface to see how the paints react.
