Unfortunately I was late to the party. I knew about this fresh kill mid-week but couldn't make it out because of work. The guy that first found the kill also told a friend with hounds and they started a chase yesterday. They didn't catch the cat but he did vacate the area. Hoping bobcats, coyotes or another cougar finds the carcass it before the ravens get busy.

If it isnt killed the cat will come back. When it returns depends on the cat. At least in Alberta, male and females treat their kills differently. Researchers found males often make a kill, feed on it for a day or too and move. They are driven to patrol their territory, ready to risk losing a kill for a chance to mate. I have found this to hold true. Sometimes i have waited a month before a tom returned. Good luck.

Oh, i forgot to mention that you should check on the set as often as possible. The cat will likely move the carcass allowing you a different photo.

Makes sense but I didn't realize there was that behavioral difference between males and females. As far as I know the cat is still alive so hopefully he returns. Given the circumstances I've heard of the pursuit I'm not entirely confident they ever got started on the right track. :what? . It's a bit of a trip for me to get back to the site so unfortunately it could be a few weeks.

Pictures!!! But no pictures quite yet. The kill site is an hour plus drive and half hour hike from my place so i haven't had a chance to get back. Fortunately I found out about the site from a retired friend that lives very close to the location. He checked the cam today there are 400+ pics of the cat :jumpy Woohoo.... The anticipation is killing me. My friend does not have internet or email, so i'll have to wait to see them. He said there are some exceptional pictures from the extended flash s600. Hopefully the cat hunters don't make it back to check out the site before more pictures. The cat fed for a few days and now hasn't been back for a few. Assuming it will show up again.

As much as I love cougar on the dinner plate. The opportunity for pictures at this site is way more valuable to myself than cutting another cougar tag. Plus the kids did a great job this past year putting meat in the freezer.

If I heard that much good news about my set. Well, let's just say that you have far more patience and restraint than I do.
