Nikon L11: Using AA Enneloop 2550 rechargeable batteries at 1.3v each if l put a pair in the camera it will turn on and work correctly. Put a pair in the externals and the camera goes on and back off again indicating not enough power. First question why? Second question does anyone know if l can use 3 x AA Enneloop batteries in the externals? There will only be 1.3 x 3 = 3.9v. The camera requires 3v to work on externals will the extra .9v ruin the camera? I am thinking not as 2 x AA Energizer lithium batteries = 3.4v.
Thanks

My L11s will work well with two rechargable AAs in the external battery holder and none in the camera. From what you describe there may not be enough electrical conductivity between the external battery holder and the camera. Try gently cleaning the battery terminals and the contacts in the holder with fine emery cloth and/or denatured ethanol. Use a voltmeter and check the voltage in the camera's battery terminals with batteries in the external holder only and then reverse the procedure -- use the same pair of batteries and you should get the same voltage both times. If the voltage is different the problem is probably the external wires or a "cold" solder joint on one of the battery contacts used in the hack.

The L11 has a menu setting for the type of battery you're using (alkaline, rechargable or lithium) do you have that set for NiMH?

I really think the 3 batteries will be ok and you can always install a diode inline on the positive battery wire that will knock down the voltage a tad.Just make sure the silver stripe on the diode is facing in the direction the current is flowing.Ralph gave me that tip a while back.

I still am yet to check on Woody's suggestions and l will as soon as l retreive the sd card, from the cam. This cam will run for about 3 weeks without externals anyway.
As for your suggestion - great, that is what l was hoping to hear, as l find the L11 needs that 3v to run. Maybe Ralph will read this and suggest the correct diode, or anyone else for that matter, if not l shall message him.

The diode he recommended was 1N4001. It worked for me...if you can’t find any let me know...I have some extras I can send you.... although you will probably be ok without a diode
