I've searched several sites and have a couple unanswered questions on the S40 hack. Getting ready to hack my first S40 so . . .
What is the purpose of the fast hack? I watched Buckshots video and it looks like it just makes sure the lens door is open. Does that really matter if the lens still has to extend? Cant the lens doors just be removed?
Is there no way to extend the lens and have it stay extended? Am I missing anything?
Thanks for the help

The fast hack speeds the camera 1/2 second. I did lots of S40 camera sand to me it really wasn't worth doing the fast hack on them. It's more important how the camera is placed

I dont think the lens doors can be removed but its been quite a few years since i did one but they can be glued open

the fast hack will keep the lens partly extended. There will still be some movement of the lens but not as much

Although I've never removed the lens doors on an S40, some people do. I glue mine open with super glue to make sure they don't get stuck partway (on Nikon L11s I remove the lens doors). The other advantage of a fast hack is that it reduces wear on the lens gears, should make the camera last longer -- remember, these are old cameras and they have a finite life span.
