Here's the story from Boulder Colorado -- very interesting though a sad ending for the family cat.

(pssst --- David, this is a unique challenge for camtrapping pumas . . . . and not far from home)

Sound worked for me. Too bad about the small cat, but glad they didn't hurt the bigger one.

Thanks for the link, Brad. I tell my neighbors that if they can;t deal with the wildlife they shouldn't live here. Last night the dog started to raise hell around 8:00 before dark. An estrous puma was caterwauling just beyond the patio, heading uphill toward other houses. My neighbor heard it the previous night. For me It was treat to hear. Some of my neighbors would be highly disturbed. Last week a friend told me he found a dead bear on the dirt road to his house. Called the warden -- it had been shot multiple times and had chicken feathers in its mouth. I like to say, "People are supposed to be smarter than bears. Fix the problem. If you don't safeguard your chickens or garbage can against wildlife or bears you've created an attractive nuisance."

I'm sorry to hear about her cat but like the codger stated, if you can't deal with wildlife, move to an apartment on the 30th floor of some building in downtown Denver. Also, this time of year when Black Bears are very vulnerable to human sources of food, it is critical to get the word out that an habituated bear is a human problem, not a bear problem. Bears in Colorado only get two strikes before they are put down. What we need are severe fines (thousands of dollars) for people who don't take care of their trash properly (too lazy to take it out to the street in the morning so they bring it out the night before and wonder why the bears get into it) and create some billboards with lazy homeowners being handcuffed with bears clapping in the background. Again, it's a human problem, not a bear problem.
