My brother Milt and I started using trail cameras in the mid 1950's but could only get one picture at a time between checkings. Had to restring the the mousetrap trigger on every picture and change the bulb in the flash. What a blessing to get the Owl PF film camera and the radio shack sensor. But nothing can compare to the quality and ease of using modern digital cameras and all the fancy sensors.

This picture of the 4x5 blacktail buck was taken in December 1960, you can see the black thread in the picture that always broke and had to be replaced on every photo.

I hope that you have been in talks with Chris in regards to his new book. That picture with your knowledge of the history on those methods back then are priceless and should be saved. Great history lesson for all of us here, thanks for sharing Cliff.

Terrific piece of history there, Cliff. I definitely have to meet you one of these days. There aren't many old-timey camera trappers around any more.
