Fast Hack s600 programming for SSII

Post by pdskal »

I was wondering if the new SSII would be capable of running a custom fast hack program for the s600? I don't know anything about programming, or what the board limitations might be dealing with the shutter common, but wanted to ask the question ( more out of curiosity than anything ). Don't get me wrong, the yeti is great performing reliable board, but relative to the size of the SSII, it's on the big side of the spectrum. It would be really nice to be able to keep that lens extended, quiet and ready for action in a few smaller builds. :rockon

The stock SSII has 2 outputs, one for shutter and one for power, and 3 are needed for the fast hack. You could use a bigger chip like the 14M and add your own opto to get the extra output needed for the fast hack. Or you could use pin 4 (this is the pin connected to the trail/feeder switch) as an output and connect an optocoupler to it for the 3rd connection.

Gary, with the extra opto would the 1k resistor still be required? And is it necessary to ground the unused pins of the 14m chip? I'm planning on giving this a try soon.

Yes, you would still want to use the resistor. It is good practice to pull the pins down, but you could probably make it without it. After thinking about it a little more, tying into the trail/feeder pin and staying with the 08M would be a better way to go. You can change it to an output for the fast hack then back to an input when you want to read the trail/feeder mode.

JDH,

If you give this a go, any chance of a You Tube video? Your Viv 2800 video helped me a lot when I did my first slave hack.

I'll do what I can as I go, don't think I have a video for a slave hack.

After thinking about it a little more, it will take some experimenting to see if pin 4 can work. Adding the 14M would probably be the easiest route.
