Fisher Set

Post by ArthurV »

Got wind that a fisher was hanging around this area so I quickly established a stump set. I'm using a trailmaster 1550 connected to a Nikon d3200 with a Nikkor 16-85 kits lens and three SB-28s. The main is on the right side set to 1/4, the fill is in the middle at 1/8 and the hairlight is to the left at 1/4 with some bark taped to the left side to block out some stray light. Inside the stump is a trap bait caller, beaver castor and sardines. The stump is about waist high, enough to ensure that other curious predators (lynx and cougar) won't trigger it until they lift up to look down into the stump. Brush on the camera side should persuade critters to approach head on. Wish me luck.

Agreed with that! Makes my single-camera s600 sets look primitive. Good luck with the set. Really looking forward to seeing some photos of an awesome small carnivore!

Whoaa, great set and thanks for posting. I sure hope you get that fisher!!! That's a tough lighting situation, dark, non-reflective fur on a snow background, but I'm sure you're up to it!

Does the 1550 cause problems for you by false triggering in the snow? I just got one and was hesitant to try in the snow.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Jonny. I only get false triggers during the heaviest snowfalls. Actually the Fisher was found by my coworkers inside the secure courtyard of our medium security prison. They managed to chase it out through the Sally port gate.
