Brand new raptor set

Post by pastorjim08 »

Ok, after you all talked me down off the ledge last time, I am trying a different, less intrusive method. I have Ollie the owl out there now in pursuit of the great horned owl I'm after. We'll see if this is more successful. Thanks for the suggestions guys.ImageImageImageImage

I wouldn't be surprised to see you get an Owl on top of that Owl.
Best of luck with it Jim, that's quite the set up.

Looks like a fun set. Are you after stills or video?

Only stills. I have two cameras on there and the H70 could have been set for video but I didn't think about that. Great idea though.

Whatever you choose, the shenanigans should be entertaining.

I wish you luck with it. I only have one question though about your setup, why the sawn timber why not use a natural branch, l feel it would be more enticing to the owl to land on?

It had to do with the actual mounting of the owl. The way it was made, it had to be a totally flat surface. I was concerned that I wouldn't be able to find just the right surface in the location that I wanted to place it. So rather than take that chance I did what I did. The time for this set is getting late because the hunting seasons will open soon and I want to make sure I have all my gear out before that. This will be my last attempt at this until after hunting seasons have ended. I told my wife that if this works, Ollie probably won't be coming home because the resident great-horned will probably destroy him.

Think about putting your "mice" on a natural branch, if the owl heads for the mice you'd get a natural-looking photo.
