Flying squirrel?

Post by tbass »

I put some more corn out where I got a black squirrel on cam and set up a W80 SS for testing. I got a ton of grays and reds, but I got this little critter at night. The colors, markings, and eyes remind me of some flying squirrels that were posted here by others. You can see its tail in the lower left of the first photo. Then it pops up in the next shot. Is it a flying squirrel?

Yes, that's a flying squirrel Tony. Hope you catch him in flight.

You asked if they eat meat and yes, they do. I get them at carcasses a lot.

Yes, that is what it is.

I had one in my last batch in flight. I was so pumped about the Bobcat pic on that run that I deleted it. I had my cam on a wolf spot for a while and only got a few of the locals, so I moved it back to the cat spot yesterday. I set it up a bit different so I could get some close ups of the smaller critters. Hopefully I will get a few more of the squirrels flying. They are a neat little critter.

It was just a big woooooohoooooooo and stuff. I never knew they were in pa let alone behind my house I hunted there for 20 years and stomped the area since about 1983 or 84 and never saw or heard of one.
