Cinderella and Prince Charming

Cinderella-in-wikiup_41.01_02C.jpg
My camera trapping friend's daughters call this place the "fairy forest". It's a willow thicket and a cattle hangout in the heat of summer. They've browsed it severely, but it has a closed canopy and a strange wikiup-like structure immediately caught my attention. I set a Browning Extreme 10 feet from the entrance and left it over winter. The 64GB SD card jammed in late December, but I got enough clips to see that it was a "dog house" used by a pair of coyotes. (These are screen shots.) Cinderella spent 6 hours there one night, and then stepped out to start a humongous chorus with her friends in the neighborhood. Prince Charming guarded the entrance. I'll try this set again when they ship out the cattle at the end of summer.

What a unique set location and it's especially cool when you get results like this.

Good catches. Coyotes certainly are smart, but who'd a thunk they'd actually build a home -- :jumpy

That's a great find. I'll bet there's more than one species has used that for shelter

I might add that near this site a coyote made off with one of my cams. The camera in the security case was cinched to a rock with a rope ratchet. Coyote chewed through the 1/4" nylon cord, and trotted off with the camera in its mouth -- the Browning recorded the passing scenery. II'd love to know if was the wikiup building female.
