Nice pic Duane- I've seen this one other time when I was a kid. We used to go out spotlighting with my dad and I remember a deer just like that. Looked like a basketball between it's legs. Never knew what ever happend to it though.

There are a couple of other names but it is called a hydro-cyst. Here is an artical from Michigan DNR

I had a deer like that hanging around my place in late summer early fall. I thought it had a big growth but it was only about half as big as that deers.

Nice link mbowman . . . because they usually have an injury mark I am betting that these are initially the result of a stick or stump piece puncturing the brisket area as they run thru the woods. A piece of wood may/may not have broken off but for sure some sort of infection sets in to create the cyst. It is the perfect spot for this to happen. It is a wonder we don't see more of these the way they run thru the woods in their "get the hell out of dodge" exits that we have all seen.

Duane: A carefully and well place arrow right down thru the cyst would solve a lot of problems for this old girl. . . . let's see how good your aim is next season. . . LOL

Thanks for sharing guys.

I saw one of these a number of years ago and was wondering about it as well . I think you hit the nail on the head PaPaBob. Good info and a great post.
