Panasonic fs7
I have a fs7 for my next build. What have you guys found to be a good slave flash for this cam? Baby slave? Is the cam better for close or far away pics? Thanks for any feedback on this cam. I’ve never built with a panny cam before.

My favourite go to cam, l have four. Yep l like a baby slave (mounted 2 foot above) with them as the flash is weak. However In my opinion they are a better daytime cam, the colour and clarity is unmatched. The internal battery is 3.7v, I run three 1.5v externals (in series) with no problems.

Day footage ... no baby slave

Twilight footage ... no baby slave

Night footage ... no baby slave

Night footage ....wireless baby slave .. ISO was set the same in the snow pic and the fall pic of the porcupines (two different spots)

I love this cam. I use this cam lots without a slave at all. I use it for closer shots. Or tight areas where the animal is going to be close as shown in the pics. I am also like Trevor and like it with a baby slave. But most of mine are without a baby slave. Day footage is great as is night footage.
All the FS series cams are good as far as Panasonic’s. FS7, 6, 3, 5, and many others use the FS15 as well. The FS6 & 7 have same battery. The FS3 and 5 use same battery. The FS7 and FS5 are both 10mp cams and the rest are 8mp. I would say the FS7 and FS3 would be my favs outa the 4 cams. The FS7 is tops in my mind tho.
I run two 4.5v battery holders ran in parallel or I use 3 18650’s ran in parallel. The 18650’s run a crazy amount of time. So long I am not sure. Plus they take up less room. But if you don’t already use 18650’s in your cam setups for other purposes the AA’s do exceptionally as well. Reason for so much power is due winter climates I face in Sask. Cold is hard on my batteries.

This is an FS3 with no baby slave. The cam is close. The flash is the same as the FS7 (Panasonic states) I posted this so you can compare as the specifications of all the FS cameras say the flash is the same.. or close to the same. You can draw your own opinions and conclusions.

A couple Build pics...
Top build is in a pelican 1040 case and the bottom case is taller and is a S3 3000 by underwater kinetics. They are cheaper than pelican and I actually like them better. We can access them easily up here in Canada.

I am finally looking at building this cam. I see the hack is the same as the fs6 which has a tutorial but I don’t see anything for the external hack. Anybody know where I can find that? Thanks

Are you just looking for the solder contact spots for externals ?saltlick wrote:I am finally looking at building this cam. I see the hack is the same as the fs6 which has a tutorial but I don’t see anything for the external hack. Anybody know where I can find that? Thanks
Also I contacted Ralph as he routes the wires different and sent me pics of how he does it. I have the pics on my other computer but I will track them down and post them here. Again it’s the way Ralph runs his wires and should show where to solder the neg and pos for externals and how to route them. Hope that’s what u are requiring
