SW MN trail pics 02-14-10 P41 Deer

Post by cnggack »

When I checked my cams this morning there was a dead deer laying 10 feet behind my camera. Not a mark on her but really thin .The snow is starting to take its toll
I did put a cam on the carcass to see if the coyotes will take it but I think they like fresh not frozen

Great pics but it does look brutally cold. Was it a mature deer or a fawn? Is it normal in your area to lose some of the herd each year, or like most of the country it's been colder than normal?

If there is enough wind there for that wind farm you would think they would all freeze as cold a winter as we have had ! :brrr That yote looks more like a wolf ? Super pics Chuck ! :awesome Bob K

Thanks, It was a mature doe but not a huge one . Last year there was one but I think the coyotes got that one.Last year we had a lot less snow and the whole section had a lot of corn left on the ground from a late wind storm just before harvest. This year most was beans and way deeper snow cover so they are eating mostly browse from the vacant groves in the area

Nice pictures Chuck. From what I've seen you post, you have waaaay too many deer in that area. There's probably just not enough browse and other food to support them all. Yote does have a thick coat.

Chuck, too bad about the dead deer. Was it the one with the tail chewed off?
